Class II
Distance from ground: 3.5m - 100m
  • the work involve main frame of the window or sub-frame of window (length of sub-frame > 1.2m)
Distance from ground: > 100m
  • the area of the external opening for window should not exceed 6m2 or
  • the length or width (whichever is shorter) of the opening should not exceed 1.8m
Class III
Distance from ground: ≤ 3.5m
  • No structural element of the window has a span of more than 6m
Distance from ground: > 3.5m but ≤ 100m
  • the work involve the sub-frame of the window (length of sub-frame ≤ 1.2m)

Class II
Distance from ground: > 3.5m
  • the height of the window or window wall should not exceed 6m
Class III
Distance from ground: ≤ 3.5m

Please note that every opening formed on an external wall above the ground floor of any building shall be protected by a barrier which shall be not less than 1.1m high (hereafter referred to as "protective barrier").

If the window or window wall works involve the removal or alteration of the original approved window/window wall/protective railing/parapet walls of balconies and verandahs or that part of the external wall with function as protective barrier, the minor works items 1.6, 1.15, 2.13, 2.14 and 3.11 may be involved.

Class II
Distance from ground: > 3.5m
  • Repair / Replacement in accordance with the original design
  • The difference in height between the level on which the protective barrier is located and its adjacent level is more than 2m
Class III
  • Repair / Replacement in accordance with the original design
  • The difference in height between the level on which the protective barrier is located and its adjacent level is not more than 2m

If the window or window wall works involve repair or replacement of protective barrier (other than an external reinforced concrete wall or block wall) in accordance with the original design, then Class II minor works item 2.5 may be involved.

In general, window works in domestic unit could be carried out according to "Technical Guidelines on Minor Works Control System-Addendum (1/2014) on Construction, Alteration or Repair of any Window in Domestic Unit above Ground Floor".
