The Building (Minor Works) (Amendment) Regulation 2021 is now in effect

1 September 2021

From 1 September 2021, more unauthorised minor amenity features can be retained under the Minor Amenity Feature Validation Scheme of the Minor Works Control System.


Amendments to the Technical Guidelines on Minor Works Control System (3/2021)

24 March 2021

The Building (Minor Works) (Amendment) Regulation 2020 (Amendment Regulation) came into operation on 1 September 2020 to extend the coverage of the Minor Works Control System to more small-scale building works. The corresponding amendments to the Technical Guidelines on Minor Works Control System have been made as follows:

  1. Chapter 3 on Catergorisation of MW has been updated and recast.
  2. Appendix VII on Recommended Design and Details for Classes II & III MW has been updated. Opportunity has been taken to update the recommended design and details of some existing MW items not affected by the Amendment Regulation; and
  3. Appendix X on Window or Window Wall Acting as a Protective Barrier is added.

The Building (Minor Works) (Amendment) Regulation 2020 has come into operation on 1 September 2020, the Buildings Department has updated the Mobile Application for MWCS - Quick Guide for Minor Works in this regard. Please download the update from App Store or Google Play.

BD has implemented a new procedure for receipt and acknowledgement of minor works submissions delivered by hand

BD has implemented a new procedure for receipt and acknowledgement of minor works submissions delivered by hand. For a batch of more than five submissions received at a time after 4:00 p.m., BD will issue the acknowledgement letter on the next working day. In addition, the industry stakeholders are encouraged to deliver minor works submissions in the morning session of the opening hours.


Notice of Commencement and Certificate Completion for Minor Works

4 June 2015

Please be reminded that the appointed Prescribed Building Professionals or Prescribed Registered Contractors should timely submit the notice of commencement of works and certificate of completion of works to the Buildings Department (BD) in accordance with the Buildings (Minor Works) Regulation for different classes of minor works.
