Licence Application Tracking for Food Premises-related Licences - Access the Licence Application Tracking Facility and check the status of your application for food premises-related licences on-line.

The Department advises licensing authorities from building safety point of view on the suitability of premises for uses in respect of the following:-

(a) Applications for food business licence such as restaurants, factory canteens, cold store etc., under the Food Business Regulation etc. The role and requirements of the Department can be found in the “Guide to Application for Licences” in the websites of Food and Environmental Hygiene Department ( http://www.fehd.gov.hk )

(b) Applications for Karaoke permit at restaurants under the Karaoke Establishments Ordinance.

(c) Applications for registration of child care centres under the Child Care Services Ordinance.

(d) Applications for registration of non-purpose built schools and kindergartens under the Education Ordinance and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance. The role and requirements of the Department can be found in the “Information on Application for School Registration” in the websites of Education Bureau ( http://www.edb.gov.hk ).

(e) Applications for licence and their renewal under the Places of Public Entertainment Ordinance and Places of Amusement By-laws.

(f) Various licence applications including Swimming Pool, Commercial Bathhouse, Billiard Establishment, Public Bowling Alley, Public Skating Rink, Dance Hall, Amusement Games Centre, Mahjong and Tin Kau Establishment, Massage Establishment and Offensive Trades.

(g) Other licence applications not mentioned above where special comments are required on a specific issue.


In processing restaurant, other food business premises and places of public entertainment licence applications, the Department has adopted streamlined procedures which rely to a great extent upon self-regulation of authorized persons and register structural engineers in certifying compliance with building safety requirements.

The Department also licenses oil storage installations and the licence charges are:

Issue of oil storage installation licence for a period of 12 months $45,250
Renewal of oil storage installation licence for a period of 12 months $23,100
