Under the Buildings Ordinance, advertising signboards are building works. In order to ensure the safety of the structures of signboards, any one who wants to have any signboard erected, prior approval and consent should be obtained from the Building Authority. The proliferation of large unauthorized signboards to the exterior of buildings has given rise to concern about their risk to public safety and health.
To speed up the processing of applications for the erection of signboards to existing building, the Building Authority has been providing a fast-track processing service for such applications since 2 June 2003. Under this fast-track processing system, the alteration and addition plans submitted with sufficient information as specified in the
Practice Note for Authorized Persons and Registered Structural Engineers 269
will be processed within 30 day of receipt of the submission.
After having obtained approval of plans and consent to commencement, the Authorized Persons and Registered Structural Engineer should ensure that sufficient measures to protect public safety are provided during the course of works.
