| Welcome to the Buildings
Department's Homepage!
In a modern metropolis and world city like Hong Kong, people always look for quality and sustainable buildings in their built environment. The Buildings Department aims to make the built environment of Hong Kong safe and healthy for our community by setting and enforcing safety, health and environmental standards for private buildings. We promote and facilitate the construction and maintenance of quality and sustainable buildings through the many services we provide within the purview of the Buildings Ordinance and Regulations as well as other building laws.
In new buildings, we work in partnership with the building professionals in the plan approval and construction process and carry
out audit checks to ensure compliance with building standards. We provide incentives to promote the construction of environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings.
For existing buildings, we take rigorous enforcement action
against dangerous and newly erected unauthorized building
works, dangerous buildings and slopes, defective drains and
signboards. We promote timely maintenance of buildings
and administer a building safety loan scheme to help those
in need.
We also conduct regular review of our regulations and standards to keep the building control system commensurate with the advancement in technology as well as the practice and needs of the
industry and public aspiration, a system in harmony with the society.
In this website, we provide you with information on the functions and services of the Buildings
Department. You may gain access to our latest publications

stages of development, data relating to residential property
development, as well as statistics on our services and enforcement
actions.
