Role

BUILDING SURVEYOR
  • To examine building plan submissions and to process applications for licences, consent to commencement of works and occupation permits;

  • To carry out audit checks on sites with building works in progress and inspect unauthorized building works, buildings, drains and slopes/retaining structures;

  • To evaluate the fire safety measures of existing buildings and to specify necessary remedial works;

  • To specify and supervise works in default of statutory orders and emergency works for buildings, drains and slopes/retaining structures; and

  • To take necessary enforcement actions and to keep the building legislation and standards under review.

STRUCTURAL ENGINEER
  • To examine structural plan proposals and to carry out any related actions such as the issue of approval and consent for commencement of works, related site inspections, witnessing of related site testing, etc;

  • To monitor safety and quality of works carried out on building sites; and

  • To carry out inspection on existing buildings or slopes, and to carry out any necessary safety control enforcement action.

 

SURVEY OFFICER (BUILDING)
  • To assist in checking building plans and inspecting works of private developments and licensed premises;
  • To inspect dangerous slopes, building dilapidations, unauthorized building works and fire infractions and to assist in taking enforcement actions; and
  • To prepare working drawings and cost estimates, and to assist in building records management.
TECHNICAL OFFICER (STRUCTURAL)
  • To assist in checking structural design and details, test reports and construction records, and in witnessing and carrying out of tests on foundation and structural elements;

  • To assist in carrying out inspection of buildings and slopes, surveying defects and unauthorised building works, arranging issue of statutory orders/ notices, and supervising works, including emergency cases, carried out by Government contractors; and

  • To assist in the training of junior staff.
